These are the projected costs involved for any worker in any area of ministry which may be specified by the benefactor. These figures are broken down for analysis and to allow for partial funding. We would welcome any help and take any opportunity offered, however great or small. Although the needs of a missionary and a teacher are very different, to keep it simple I would suggest they receive similar financial support, but be allowed to spend it according to their needs. For example a missionary might not need a computer, but they would have phenomenal traveling expenses. Therefore I have written the table of financial needs in more flexible terms so that it can be applied to any form of ministry.
The nature of self employment means that wages vary from week to week, so the total is unlikely to be used in exactly 52 weeks. These figures are intended to be flexible, but the overall (total) figure will be as exact as reasonably possible.
Wages approximately 80%
(about £25,000 p.a.)
Paid £20/hour for all work towards stated aim, including administration, preparation, travel and direct ministry.
Paid a flat rate of £100/day when ministry involves staying away from home.
Weekly/monthly reports to be submitted to the trustees.
Paid on a self employed basis, therefore PBS is not responsible for tax, sick pay and holidays etc.
Assuming time off / paternity / sick leave etc. approximately 1 week in 7.
For teaching: mainly mileage, setting up (or updating) equipment and stationary supplies.
For mission/evangelism/pastoral: travel (mileage / flights / accommodation), literature and Bibles etc.
Please note, that for the second year onwards setting up costs may be proportionately less.
We would like to have at least two working at this level, myself as a teacher and a minister chosen by Life & Light as a missionary or pastor. This would total £62,000.
Wages 70-80%
(about £13,500 p.a.)
Setting up and running Costs 20-30%
(about £5,500 p.a.)
We would like to have at least two working at this level as teachers, missionaries or pastors. This would total £38,000.
Wages 60-70% (about £4367 p.a.).
This is £83.98 per week average, at which level tax is not incurred which saves considerable paperwork.
Setting up and running costs 30-40%
(about £2,633 p.a.)
We would like to have two working at this level including Elsie as a teacher. This would total £14,000.
Summary:
Our primary target for this year was £38,000 to support two teachers, one full time and one part time, but we would still be delighted to receive smaller donations. To support a full time teacher this year we have received a pledge of £10,000 from the Sir Halley Stewart Trust and £15000 from the Joseph Rank Trust, which is fantastic. For a part time teacher, Elsie Smith, we have received £4500 from the Anchor Foundation and a further £2000 from the Barnabas Trust (click 'Latest News' above for up-to-date info). Therefore we can consider that target as met. Recently we have secured £750 towards the work in Russia and the Czech Republic, and £1150 for the Romanian Children's Home, but this is just a start, so we now want to broaden and increase everything we are supporting in other aspects of ministry such as missionary or pastoral work. Naturally, we are not expecting support for all this to come from one source, so we are grateful for even a widow’s mite. We want to do as much as possible of course: we currently have enough demand to keep many workers busy.
